Project Work/Portfolio (70%): You will be responsible for all the stages of your projects. Missing a part of a project will impact your grade. Project work will be both on and off the computer. Technical skills you will learn include use of software such as Photoshop and Illustrator. You will be able to optimize, edit and enhance computer imagery. You will also create a variety of assignments that are not computer-based but focus on the elements and principles of design. Through a creative process you will plan, design and execute a variety of school based graphics. Industry standards and ethics will be considered; copyright laws adhered too.
Classroom Management (10%): Listening and contributing to the class projects and discussions - this is vital to the creative process. Maintaining a clean, safe classroom. ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO CLEAN UP AFTER THEMSELVES!
- All students are expected to follow BHS attendance and behavioral policies. 2 Cuts = Withheld Credit, 13 Absences = Withheld Credit, 6 Tardies = Withheld Credit.
- RESPECT! You are expected to respect your teacher, each other and each others artwork. Also, you will be responsible for any equipment you use in or out of class. Please respect the equipment so all students can benefit. Please notify me immediately if equipment fails to work properly.
- Cell phones: Keep them on silent – If I see or hear them they will be taken and held until the end of class.
- Computer User policies apply in class - Breaking policies result in the loss of computer/networking privileges for 2 week.
- Food/Drinks: Food is NOT allowed near the computers. Drinks are allowed ONLY if they are capped and will not spill or leak if they are knocked over.
- Bottom Line: You are in my class to use your imagination to create high quality art by employing your ideas, thoughts, feelings, creations, personal taste and style.
Sketchbook (20%): Assignments will focus on the basic principles and elements of design. You should spend a MINIMUM of 1-2 hours on each Sketchbook assignments. Your sketchbook will be graded on effort, craftsmanship, and personal achievement. Sketchbook minimum size is 8.5 x 11. If you are not able to buy a sketchbook, you can make one in class.
What is the Point of a Sketchbook?
The more you think about art the more it becomes a part of your “everyday thinking”. Creative thinking is like the saying, “use it or lose it”. The more you use your mind creatively, the stronger your creative thinking becomes.
Supply List for Class:
Pencil and Eraser
Sketchbook (8 1/2" x 11" or 9" x 12")
Students are expected to come to every class with a pencil, eraser and sketchbook.
