Papier Mache Cultural Masks

You will be creating a Culture-Inspired mask out of Papier Mache. These are the things you need to do to start out:

1. Research masks of different cultures and chose a culture that you would like to use as inspiration for your mask design. You can use a culture that is a part of your own ancestry or one that you just find appealing. NOTE: You are not recreating a mask exactly - you will be asked to add personal elements to it.
   



2. Do a quick research assignment that explains the culture you chose and how/what that culture generally used masks for.
   



3. Decide if you want your mask to be decorative (something that would just hang on a wall) or functional (something you could actually wear).
   



4. Sketch out ideas for your own mask design.
   



5. Create your mask out of papier mache. Think about/consider any other material you would like to add to your mask (cloth, feathers, beads, etc.)
   



6. Reflect on the meaning of your inspiration mask and how you designed your mask to have a meaning of your own.
