Value Collage

First, choose a photograph/image.

1. Print a colored copy of the image that you chose. Remember – look for a fairly simple image, one that does not have a lot of tiny detail (example: a close up of someone’s face or a close up of a flower instead of a picture of a group of people or a bundle of flowers).

2. Change image size to 8” x 10” or the closest you can get to that size without distorting the image.

Changing Image Size in Photoshop:
Go to Image --> Image size
Change the image size (in inches) to 8” x 10” (or the closest you can get without distortion).

3. Print the image out and draw an outline of the image with pencil onto a separate piece of paper.

4. Look at the values/colors that are in your image and try to find the closest match in a magazine.

5. Tear or cut the paper to fit the correct size and shape that exists in your image. Glue the pieces onto the paper that your drew your image on and do your best to recreate the image you chose out of torn/cut pieces of color.
