Colorizing in Photoshop

A Lesson in Color Photo Manipulation

First - Choose a colored image and open it up into Photoshop
(File-> Open , Choose your image file)

Next, go to Image -> Mode -> Select Grayscale and click on Discard when the message window pops up. (This removes all of the color out of your photograph)

Now select the paintbrush tool in your tool bar.

Go back to Image-> Mode and select CMYK Color

At the top of your Photoshop screen you should see another tool bar that goes horizontal. (It changes depending on what tool you select on the left hand side of the screen)

In that horizontal tool bar for the brush you should see the word MODE. Click on that and scroll down the list and select COLOR.

On the right hand side of your screen, you should see your colors/swatches palettes. If you do not see them go to WINDOW and scroll down to select COLOR.

Choose your color. Think about what color scheme you would like to use in order to manipulate your image and begin to add color into your black and white photograph. Then you can adjust the size and shape of your paint brush in the horizontal tool bar as well as the opacity of the color you are using to achieve the desired color intensity.
