Next, go to File -> Open
From there, go to My Computer ->Shared Data (S Drive) -> monks folder ->2011/2012 folder ->Graphic Design Thumb Print Design.
Select your class and open the image up into Photoshop.
Now, in photoshop, select Window up at the top of the screen and scroll down and select Navigator. Using your navigator tool, locate your thumb print.
Next, Select the crop tool in your photoshop tool bar on the left hand side of the screen:
Click and Drag a box around your thumb print and hit Enter on your keyboard.
Now you should only see your thumb print on your Photoshop screen.
Once you have your thumb print on your screen, you will need to adjust the size. To do this go to Image -> Image Size and type in the size you would like to enlarge your image to. For this particular assignment, adjust the Height/Width to approximately 8" x 10"
BEFORE YOU CONTINUE!!!
At this point, make sure you save your image by going to File -> SAVE AS and rename the file. Save it into My Documents on your computer.
NOW WE EDIT YOUR IMAGE...
The goal is to get rid of ALL THE GRAY AREAS in your thumb print and help make the lines more visible.
Start off with going to Image ->Adjustments -> Brightness/Contrast
Experiment with adjusting the brightness/contrast to make the thumb print more visible.
Next, go to Filter -> Sharpen -> Unsharpen Mask
Experiment with this as well to make the lines of your thumb print more visible.
When you are finished, go to File -> Save and save your thumb print in your documents.
NOTE: If you are having a hard time adjusting your thump print to the point where you can make out the lines in your thumb print, let me know. We can always reprint/re-scan your thumb to get a clearer image.
