Tips For Poster Designs

• The #1 Rule is ... SIMPLICITY!! - Keep it as simple as you can while still getting the point across.
  
• Know Your Audience!! - Who will be viewing this poster? Appeal to who your viewers are going to be.
  
• Check and Double Check Spelling!! - Nothing is worse than having a great poster with a misspelled word!
  
• Neatness and Readability - Is the lettering easily legible? Can the words be read from a distance?
  
• Only Use 2-3 Different Font Styles at the MOST! - You want to keep the poster simple, having too many font styles can be very distracting and makes it more difficult for the poster to display a sense of unity.
  
• Choose Colors Wisely! - Again, keep it simple with the colors but also use color strategically! Keep in mind that color costs money - the more colors you use, the more expensive it will be to reproduce your poster. Use color to reinforce the main message of your poster.
  
• Quick and Clear Message - You do not want people to have to stop to figure out what your poster is trying to tell them. Viewers should understand at a quick glance exactly what your poster is about!
  
• Keep the Major Information/Title Larger, Stronger, Brighter! - The main words are more important than the secondary words and phrases. Try to pull people in with your title so they will look longer and closer at your poster to read the secondary words/information. (example: Prom 2010 should be large, bold and colorful - the date, time and location can also stand out but not as much - the ticket prices and where to get them can be smaller and less obvious.)
